The Daily Fight

The heart which is naturally sensual and earthly–will never be turned to spiritual things without a daily fight.- J.C. Ryle
What stirs your affections for Jesus Christ? And what robs you of those affections?-Mark ChandlerGo ahead, answer these questions… What else do I need to say in this blog to get you to think deeper? “I don’t know” should never be the answer to these questions. The Christian who has been revealed their life by the Life Giver, should strive to understand their heart and their affections and their tendency to sinfulness and deceit. We need to understand the Daily Fight of our hearts desires. We should strive to identify what stirs us to love Jesus in greater ways and in deep worship.  We stir the love of our hobbies buy buying for and spending time doing them and finding the enjoyment in them. We stir the romantic embers of our marriages with date nights, good conversation and lovemaking. So how do we stir our affections for Jesus?

What robs us of our affections for Jesus? What burdens us? What steals our passion for Jesus? Do you have passion for Jesus and the glory of God? Or are your passions deadened by something? Maybe you have no passion…period.  What has stolen it? Perhaps its the bills, burdens and busyness. Identify what robs you of your affection and fight it. Fight It Daily. Fight it with the Gospel. You can never do it alone. Your not called to fight it alone. You are also NOT called to do nothing. Rise up and fight!

The most important 10 minutes are the next 10 minutes you take to answer one or both of these questions. Stop what you’re doing go to a word processing document and type out your thoughts for ten minutes on these questions. Some of you will “List” things. Others will process and try to narrow down to one answer because your looking for the one thing that answers this question. Others will just type and need to come back later on a daily basis to work on this over a few days or weeks.

  • If your the list person, make as many as possible, but then address only one for now.
  • If you are  the bottom line person, don’t be afraid of more than one answer.
  • If you can’t come up with the answer in ten minutes, do this exercise everyday for 5 days straight till you get the answer. The meditation will be good. The time invested will be worth it.

The point is, you fight for this answer. You fight for it in prayer, in meditation and study of Scripture. Seek to know the affections and deceptions of your heart. Seek the Scriptures to see the truth of what God says about it.
