First Things First

We can set up all the external boundaries for purity and yet still sin. We can repent through actions yet miss the heart of true repentance and what it really means. We can deceive ourselves and never look into the heart of the matter. The Integrity Equation includes an honesty that isn’t just confessional of actions but transparent in the deeper motivations of the sinful heart. Jesus says it like this

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.” (Matt 23:25-26 ESV)

The external boundaries needed to steer away from temptation are helpful tools in the fight for purity. But when we look into the cup of our very heart, we need to look at some “heart searching” questions that challenge our convictions. It is through the internal convictions of the Holy Spirit working and forming and shaping our old sinful desires to become the desires for righteous living. Not will power.

Look at these 4 questions and take some time to truly meditate on your heart’s condition in this fight. Because if you are fighting with the wrong motive, frustration and fatigue will set in where  joy and victory should be where the Lord designed.

    1. Do You see lust (pornography, masturbating, etc…) as a problem? Is it truly in your view a sin?

    2. Do you view objectifying someone as disrespectful and ultimately sinful?

3 Do you truly think Christ can satisfy your desires so that you are content in him?

    4. Who do you worship? your Self, sex-drive, or the Saviour? Do your actions show it?
