There is always a two pronged approach to training your thoughts: defensively (which we covered the last two weeks) and offensively.
a) By praying for renewal of your mind
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2
The renewal of our mind is a double work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does an inside job of breaking our hardened hearts to be able to see revealed truth of the Scriptures. He also does an outside job of prompting , causing, leading us to hear the Gospel, to read and to study the Word of God.
We are to pursue and pray for that work to happen. We pursue it by exposing our lives to Scriptural truth and Christ centered doctrine. We pray that we go beyond knowledge and have those truths become our conviction and part of our character. The praying is the continual humbleness of asking for God to work.
