Bless the Lord #39

#39 that Jesus understand the human struggle.

Hebrews 4:14 says: “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.”

In some of my more difficult struggles, it is hard to believe the Jesus understood those too. Sure I get that he was tempted and was sinless. But what about the humanity factor of broken health or temperaments. Does he understand the pain of a broken unhealthy body that lives year after year? Does he understand the desperate cries of a darkened soul that struggles to find hope?

This is what I’ve concluded: Because he has been beaten and broken, he has empathy for those in pain. Because he prayed out of a desperate heart “take the cup”, and experienced the forsaking of the Father, Jesus has empathy for those looking for hope.

The greater point of praise is that he also responded in the way we should in our weakness. He faithfully turned to the grace and mercy of the Father- there by glorifying him over medicines that can relieve and inspirational moments that can motivate. Jesus’ respond to the weaknesses he experienced, glorified God greater than any strengthening miracle could be given Him in that moment.

Because Christ knew how to handle the weak moments of this life and therefore understood the human struggle- and is now praying for us when we are weak… I bless the Lord for that.
