I used to be fascinated with the concept of the secret place Jesus spoke of on the sermon on the mount, when I was a kid learning in Sunday School class. The Hiding place. The Secret place. Jesus’ instruction to go into your room and shut the door and pray in secret… all fascinated me.
But then I learned of a different concept in the hiding place. It was the hiding place in the sovereignty of God. A shelter in the storm. A place of trusting and contentment.
As I continued to grow in my trusting and leaning not on my own understanding and remaining faithful in my profession and belief, I learned a third concept of the greatest hiding place in light of the salvific truth about Christ being my substitute and the imputation of His righteousness. Christ is the great Hiding place and for that I praise the Lord.
