THE THREE STRATEGIES

BROKEN SYSTEMS
Killing sin is absolutely essential to the Christian life. But if all we do is tackle our sin without also building new spiritual habits, we’ll leave a vacuum that the Enemy will fill with temptation. Killing Sin is the third of The 7 Resolutions, and I believe that successfully conquering those things that are killing us requires all 7.

NEED HELP TO STOP MINIMIZING SIN?
You can clench your teeth and muster all your energy, but nothing releases you from sin like owning it before God. We can’t minimize our compromise and expect to experience peace with God and others. There must come a time when we see our sin and own it. But you don’t need to go on this journey alone. Signup for our free virtual event on Killing Sin today.

ROMANS 12:9
God’s plan has order and progression. We can’t love the good without hating the evil. Romans 12:9 gives us a powerful progression in conquering and killing sin: “Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good.” There is a simple three step progression here that we must see and practice.
-
HUMILITY
Anyone who desires to conquer sin must learn to reject pride and walk in humility. Pride and humility are worlds apart. Pride is the birthplace of all that is evil. Humility is the ground from which all that is good grows. Choosing humility is not an unrewarded exercise of self-denial. The rewards of humbling ourselves are rich.

BEARING FRUIT

HEARING THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit makes the Word of God alive and active in God’s children. When you discover the vital link between God’s Word and the Holy Spirit, you can raise the sails of your soul and be moved to true spiritual liberty, actively conquering sin. As we abide in Christ, the Holy Spirit takes God’s Word and empowers us to apply it, bringing transformation—the design God had all along.

CONFESSING SIN
Without a heart filled with humility we will never be able to confess our sins. There is perhaps no better book on the subject than Humility, published by Andrew Murray in 1884. Read a modernized and abridged version of Humility here.

KILLING SPECIFIC SINS
“Unsized time flows to our weaknesses.” One of the most practical things we can do to kill sin in our lives is give it less room to grow. Download our free guide on practical ways to join God, think truth, and redeem your time in order to kill sin.

THE THREE BOUNDARIES
We can’t allow sin unencumbered access to our lives. Nor put ourselves in places that make it more likely for sin to kill us. Good boundaries provide spiritual protection. God established and taught us healthy limits, which are an enormous blessing. They fall into three main categories: moral, relational, and spiritual boundaries.

WALKING IN VICTORY
If you’ve grown accustomed to bad habits, written off lifelong battles as unwinnable, or believed that some destructive behaviors can never be changed, I get it. I’ve been there. I know what it’s like to feel like a spiritual impostor. The truth is, we’re all in recovery, but we like to pretend we’ve got it all buttoned up. Jesus has saved you, but there’s still a lot of transformation that God wants to do. You can change, but you can’t do it in your own power. It’s time to say no to self-help and yes to God’s power!
